The Athens Area Commencement Center was founded in 1978, is State of Georgia Licensed, and is dedicated to building a lifelong sober community for its clients. The Commencement Center provides treatment based on the most recent medical understanding of addiction as a disease of the brain which affects the addict, the family and the community. We understand that addiction is an allergy of the body combined with an obsession of the mind. An alcoholic or drug addict is not a bad person; he or she is a person with a disease. We believe in helping the client recover quickly from alcohol and prescription drug addiction, and in giving them the support they need so they have the best chance at long-term sobriety.
